It all started with Art studio on the Commodore 64 and it continued with DeLuxe Paint on the Amiga and after that i didn’t touch a computer for a couple of years until i started to study to become a network/PC technician and next to our classroom was a media lab with (for the time) pretty fancy computers with Imagine 3D and Photoshop installed on them before my year in school was over i spend more time in that classroom on my spare time then in our classroom learning Photoshop and Imagine 3D.
Photoshop have always been a breeze for me, iv’e never had any problems learning new techniques and tools since i started using it with version 3.0 back in the days. Always had and still have a lot of fun listening to music and doing some design work, illustrations or image retouching and i find it to be very relaxing when i’m stressed out or having my morning coffee.
Now 3D is a totally different story. I’ve tried Imagine 3D, Bryce 3D, Poser 3D, 3D Studio and Lightwave 3D and never managed to get my head around it so i gave up on 3D all together while i still had some sanity left in that round thing on top of my shoulders. Now about two years ago i was given the task to design a stage for a heavy metal event so i started looking for free software and stumbled upon Blender 3D and downloaded it. It didn’t take long for me to get a basic understanding of the interface and soon i felt pretty comfortable using it and doing what i swore to never do again… 3D modelling.
Since than i’ve started to use Blender more and more in my workflow and now i’ve actually come to a point where i spend more time in Blender than in Photoshop and i challenge myself to do something new in every piece of art i create, may it be a material or a new modelling technique i haven’t tried before and it’s so much fun. Thanks to the online community for blender on social media and youtube it’s pretty easy to learn this great software and i can’t wait for the release of Blender 2.8 with a new UI and Eeve.
Now a day doesn’t go by without me thinking of a new project and it seems like i (to my girlfriends frustration of hearing me talk about Blender) always have one or two new projects in my personal pipeline. Oh, I almost forgot… Since I started using blender I started to sketch more and that made my drawing skills improve also and that’s not a bad thing.
So to summon this babbeling, since i started to learn Blender and 3D modelling my life as an artist became so much more fun and it’s so much fun to challenge myself with every new project i start.
